Show commemorating The Battle of Largs 1263 - the last Viking invasion.
The Norse had retained control of the Western Isles. In July 1263 King Haco is said to have sailed from Bergen with 200 ships. In the Hebrides he was joined by the King of Man. From there they sailed down the coast of Scotland, raiding the mainland.There was a storm, some of the Norse ships were stranded at Largs and an armed engagement began. After it the Norse left and did not come back again. But it was not until 1266 and The Treaty of Perth that the islands were Scotland's.
